Twin Name Generator
Suggested twin name pairs from official 2025 name lists, scored for syllables, sounds, first letters and popularity.
The tool
How the pairing score adds up
Every pair starts from zero and collects points from six checks, up to 100. Some pairs are never suggested at all, whatever their score: the same name twice, names that are too alike, and pairs that break the style you picked.
| Part | Points | How the points are given |
|---|---|---|
| Syllables | 25 | Same number of syllables 25, one apart 15, two apart 5, more 0. |
| Endings | 20 | Different sounds: a different last letter 20, the same last letter 10; names that end in the same sound (Aras and Atlas) are never suggested. Rhyming: the same final sound 20, only the same last letter 10. |
| First letters | 15 | The pair matches your first-letter choice (any, same or different). A pair that does not is left out. |
| Easy to tell apart | 15 | Edits needed to turn one name into the other, divided by the longer name's length: 0.8 or more 15, 0.6 or more 10, 0.4 or more 5. Below 0.4 (Muhammad and Mohammed), one name inside the other (Ömer and Ömer Asaf) and anagrams are never suggested. |
| Popularity balance | 15 | Each name's place in its official table, from 0 (first) to 1 (last). A gap of up to 0.10 gives 15, up to 0.25 gives 10, up to 0.50 gives 5, anything more 0. |
| Origin | 10 | Only when both names have a verified origin: the same origin 10, different origins 3. Otherwise a neutral 5, shown as “not scored”. |
| Total | 100 |
Ties are broken by how familiar the two names are (their places in the table added up), then alphabetically, so the same choices always give the same list. One name appears at most twice in a list, unless you start from it.
How this works
Pick the kind of twins you are expecting: a boy and a girl, two boys or two girls. Then choose the list the names come from. One is the 2025 list for England and Wales from the Office for National Statistics, the other the 2025 list for Türkiye from TÜİK, Turkey's statistics office. Every name in the generator is in one of those official tables, so you will not meet invented spellings or names nobody uses.
Two more choices set the style. First letters can be anything, the same (Lily and Leo) or deliberately different. Endings can contrast, so the names do not rhyme when you call them across a room, or they can rhyme if that is the sound you want. If one name is already decided, start from it and the generator only suggests partners for that name.
Each pair gets a score out of 100 from six checks: syllable balance, how the endings sound together, the first-letter choice, how easy the names are to tell apart, whether the two names are similarly common, and, where it is verified, whether they share an origin. Open “Why this score” under any pair to see every part. Pairs that are too alike to work, such as Muhammad and Mohammed, or one name inside the other, such as Ömer and Ömer Asaf, are never suggested.
These are suggestions, not the most popular twin pairs: no official office publishes which names twins were given together today (the US Social Security Administration did for 2005 to 2011, then stopped). A meaning appears only for names we checked against two published references. The rest show no meaning rather than a guess. Your choices are kept in the page address, so you can send the list to your partner.
The math behind it
The score adds six parts, 100 points in all. Syllables (25): the same number of syllables scores 25, one apart 15, two apart 5, more 0. Turkish syllables follow the spelling exactly; English ones are estimated from the spelling.
Endings (20). With “different sounds”, names that end on a different letter score 20, the same last letter 10, and names that end in the same sound (Aras and Atlas) are left out. With “rhyming”, the same final sound scores 20 and only the same last letter 10. First letters (15): the pair matches the choice you made, and a pair that does not is left out.
Easy to tell apart (15): the number of letter edits that turn one name into the other, divided by the longer name's length. 0.8 or more scores 15, 0.6 or more 10, 0.4 or more 5. Below 0.4, one name inside the other, or the same letters in another order, the pair is never suggested.
Popularity balance (15): each name's place in its official table runs from 0 (first) to 1 (last), so Türkiye's top 30 and England and Wales's top 100 are measured on the same scale. A gap of up to 0.10 scores 15, up to 0.25 scores 10, up to 0.50 scores 5, more 0. Origin (10): when both names have a verified origin, the same origin scores 10 and different origins 3. Otherwise the part is a neutral 5 and is marked “not scored”.
Ties are broken by how familiar the two names are, then alphabetically, so the same choices always give the same list. A name appears at most twice in one list unless you start from it. The scoring code is tested against hand-worked examples, for example Alya and Defne score 95 and Duru and İnci 100 on the Turkish list.
In the ProbaBaby app
iPhone · iPad · Apple WatchOnce the names are chosen, the app keeps each twin's day apart
The pairing score lives on this page: the app's Name Explorer has no twin-pair mode. What the app adds comes after the birth, with a profile, a card and timers for each baby.
The app also
- Confirming a twin birth creates one baby profile per baby in a single step; until you enter the names they show as “Baby A” and “Baby B”.
- Two feeding or sleep timers can run at the same time on one phone, and each baby gets its own Home card, Live Activity, Lock Screen widget and Apple Watch page.
- A Compare tab puts the twins side by side: feeds, sleep and diapers per day, and both growth curves on one chart drawn on the WHO growth standards.
- Name Explorer lets you swipe through names, keep favourites and match with your partner on the names you both like.

Frequently asked questions
No. They are suggested pairs from our score. The official tables we use, from TÜİK in Türkiye and the ONS in England and Wales, count how many babies were given each name in 2025. They do not record which names were given to twins together, so any list of “most popular twin names” cannot come from those tables.
Most parents look for names that feel like a pair without sounding the same: a similar length, endings that do not rhyme when called together, and a similar level of familiarity so one twin does not get the everyday name and the other the unusual one. The generator scores exactly those things, plus an optional same or different first letter.
It is a matter of taste. Matching initials (Lily and Leo) look neat on paper. Different initials make post, school lists and labels easier to tell apart. Choose “Same letter” or “Different letters” to see only one kind, or “Any” to let the score decide.
We show a meaning only for names we checked against two published references, with a quoted line from each. That is 20 Turkish names so far, the top 10 boys and girls of TÜİK's 2025 list. Other names show no meaning rather than one copied from a baby-name site we could not verify.
Only from official name statistics: TÜİK's 2025 list for Türkiye (the top 30 for each sex) and the Office for National Statistics' 2025 list for England and Wales (the top 100 for each sex). Each name's rank is shown under the pair.
Yes. Every choice you make is stored in the page address, so copying the link reopens exactly the same list. Nothing you choose is stored anywhere else.
