Ovia is the long-running incumbent in pregnancy tracking — it's been on the App Store since 2012 and has a mature daily-content rotation. ProbaBaby is newer, iOS-only, and built around a different philosophy: privacy-first data handling and deep iOS integration (Apple Watch, Live Activities, Dynamic Island) rather than corporate-health-benefit partnerships.

Both let you track week-by-week, log symptoms, and time contractions. The differences show up in the details: who owns your data, what the app does with it, and how it behaves on a modern iPhone.

## Picks

- **Best Overall: ProbaBaby** — Privacy-first design, plus deep iOS integration that Ovia hasn't matched (Apple Watch app, Live Activities, Dynamic Island, no ads).
- **Best for Android Users: Ovia Pregnancy** — If you're on Android, Ovia is the closest mature equivalent. ProbaBaby is iOS-only today.

## Methodology

We installed Ovia on a test iPhone alongside ProbaBaby in May 2026 and used both daily for two weeks. We logged the same symptoms, packed the same hospital bag, ran each app's contraction timer, and explored every free tool.

Ratings use the same scale across all our comparison pages: ✓ full (present and well-built), – partial (limited, shallow, or paywalled), × none. Some rows show values (price, language count) instead of a rating.

The biggest functional difference between the two: Ovia is owned by Labcorp and has shipped employer-health-benefit integrations that share aggregated user data; ProbaBaby is independent, offline-first, and stores sensitive data on-device. iOS feature depth (Apple Watch, Live Activities, Dynamic Island) is the second axis where the apps diverge most.

Pricing and feature availability are checked at publish time. We update this page when Ovia ships a new version.

## Disclosure

## FAQ

**Did Ovia really share user data with employers?**

Ovia (now owned by Labcorp) offers an employer-health-benefit product where companies can offer Ovia to employees and receive aggregated, anonymized data about workforce pregnancy trends. Individual user data is not shared, but the model has drawn privacy scrutiny — most notably in The Washington Post's 2019 reporting. Ovia's privacy policy details what is and isn't shared; we link it in the methodology section.

**Is Ovia free?**

Ovia has a free tier with ads and an ad-removing premium subscription. ProbaBaby is free with no ads at any tier; only AI baby predictions are paid (sold as credit packs, with prices set per region by the App Store).

**Does Ovia have an Apple Watch app?**

Ovia does not currently have an Apple Watch companion app. ProbaBaby has a full Apple Watch app — 10 screens plus Settings — with contraction timing, kick counting, feeding and sleep, and 7 watch complications, one of which is a Smart Stack card.

**Can I import my Ovia data into ProbaBaby?**

Not directly. Neither app supports a one-click import from the other. Most users restart with ProbaBaby fresh; your provider's records hold the medical history you actually need. If you're partway through, the easiest manual step is to copy your due date and current week into ProbaBaby's setup.

**Which app has better daily content?**

Both have daily content. Ovia's library is older and larger; ProbaBaby's is newer and tighter, with a stronger editorial bent toward evidence-based explanations. If sheer volume matters, Ovia wins; if quality + readability matters, ProbaBaby holds its own.
